I’m going to sit here, at this bar, and be a person for 20 fucking minutes. I don’t care how weird I feel being alone at a bar. I’m going to do this. I've been in a plane and a car. A hotel room and a conference room. Another plane. Another car. Hotel room. Conference room. Conference room. Conference room. I’m not going back to that hotel room. Oh, there was the coffee shop yesterday morning, that was different. Jesus christ, I’m pathetic.Or what was it Andy called me? Distant? Cold? No it was more dramatic than that as he walked out the fucking door. Oh, I remember. Frigid. I was frigid. Too focused on work. Always traveling. Not interested in sex. Not interested in him. Not interested in taking care of him and being his mother, being there for him and all his little needs. I’m not going to apologize for being ambitious and wanting to be successful in my career. Yes I spend most nights working. I travel two weeks out of every month, and barely see my friends. But I am the youngest national sales representative in my company's history. Am I incredibly lonely? Sure. Is my vibrator my most successful long term relationship? Never fails to get me off and never complains when I don’t have time for it. I should just go back to my room. What am I trying to prove? That I can be a normal person and do normal things like hang out at the hotel bar? I should have brought my laptop. Then I wouldn’t look like such a fucking loser sitting here alone. I’m going to leave. Vibrator awaits.“Excuse me.” This was pointless. I tried. I failed. “Excuse me.” There’s a warm hand on my arm. I turn to my left to find a very tall, dark haired man with the slightest smile daring to show on his face. He’s in a black suit. Hair, perfect. Smell, perfect. Eyes burning holes into my soul? Perfect. “Uh, y…yes?” I say. Is that how my voice sounds? The smile breaks. Oh my god. “I think we are here for the same client.” He says with another brilliant smile.Ah. Competition. Okay handsome. You think you are going to get something out of me? Then it’s war. I don’t play nice. “Oh? What makes you think that?” I say cooly and turn away from him, sipping my bourbon. He laughs softly.“I saw you leaving there today.” I raise my eyebrows at him. “Well then I guess you have your answer, don’t you?” A crooked smile and a slight shake of his head.“I’m not trying to get any info or the drop on you. I was just coming to say hi.” “Uh huh.” I say into my glass, not looking at him.Another soft laugh.“I’m serious. I saw you sitting here alone, and I thought…”I glance over at him. Damn he’s good looking.“You thought what?” I asked. “You thought you’d come flirt with me and I’d let slip our pitch or what we are offering them? Please. I’m not some wide eyed newbie, eager to please a hot stranger at a bar. Nice try though.” I take another sip.He sits in silence for a moment. I dare a look over at him, he’s staring
